Shoaling a New Rhythm form a diptych that reflects the choreography of the sea – its ceaseless movement, memory, and renewal. The two works are painted in dialogue, as they emerged from my imagination at the same time, from the same vigour of creation. Shoaling captures the collective pulse of life beneath the surface: a vision of fish racing through shifting waters, their forms implied rather than shown. The untouched, raw plaster in the centre of the painting becomes a metaphor for perpetual motion, suggesting that the sea’s energy is never fully contained.
