What is seen and what is hidden? That was my enquiry for this painting. ‘Above and Below’ forms part of a collection titled ‘The Surface of Things’. In this piece there is a dominating horizon and above the water is the full moon. Below the water moves slowly and rhythmically. The light of the full moon invites the fish to rise up towards the light. These small fish can be seen in the stylised shapes created by the plaster.
