In many of my paintings I endeavour to leave the viewer to determine what they are viewing is day or night, summer or winter. However, in ‘Still Waters’ I’ve made obvious that this is very much a night time painting. A view from a boat out at sea, at night, the white cliffs of Dover are fully visible. The chalk lights up the sea in front of the boat. The blue tones in the water are purposefully cold, almost glacial.
