INSPIRED BY THE MOVEMENT OF THE SEA AND THE TIDES OF THE SOUL

My daily encounters with the shoreline provide me with abundant and dramatic possibilities for my imagination.

I’ve been intrigued over the years by how matter becomes movement, how texture can convey sound, and how colour imbues feelings, wordlessly. For me, water is a source, not a resource, with its own presence. It holds things. My art is shaped by waves of memory where I search for the balance between movement and stillness.

Adding plaster to my work was a reaction to my fear of the blank canvas and turned out to be a new language, as well as a method of giving a voice to my paintings before the introduction of colour. My paintings are sometimes described as meditative explorations of form and feeling, expressing what the water holds.
